DETROIT-- DTE Energy Co., Michigan's largest utility, has begun a sweeping cost-cutting endeavor that could lead to its largest round of layoffs in at least 50 years.
While it's not clear how many of DTE's 11,000 workers will lose their jobs, DTE President and Chief Operating Officer Gerard Anderson said that layoffs are a certainty.
"We're not going to get through this process without impacts on our employees," Anderson said in an interview with The Detroit News.
DTE, which owns Detroit Edison and Michigan Consolidated Gas Co., is scouring its operations to eliminate costs and become more efficient -- an effort that could eventually lead to lower bills for customers.
DTE has hired consultants to assist the effort and company officials hope to give employees an idea of what kind of reductions will take place in the first half of next year.
An internal report distributed to senior staff members at DTE in October and obtained this week by The Detroit News reveals the types of steps each unit of the company is taking to identify cost-cutting.
The report shows that DTE's fossil-fueled power plant division has 2,010 employees, 39 percent more than "top quality target" utilities, and that eliminating the extra workers could save $62 million a year. The unit spends 176 percent more on staff benefits and 50 percent more on overtime than best-practice companies.
Anderson called the internal report an "early diagnostic" effort to determine a course of action and not an indication of the company's plans. The numbers in it have not been agreed upon or validated, meaning the company has not analyzed whether those target utilities have differences that allow them to operate with fewer workers or lower costs than DTE.
Anderson said he and other executives have made it clear to employees, most of whom are in Metro Detroit, that there will be downsizing.
The leader of DTE's largest union, however, said that while workers are aware the utility is looking to cut costs and know the possible outcomes of such an undertaking, they have not been told to expect layoffs.
The process has created anxiety among workers because the company has never taken such broad steps. DTE continually examines its efficiency, but the initiative now under way goes far beyond that.
DTE has reduced its work force over the past two decades through attrition and recently with a few pink slips, said Jim Harrison, president of Utility Workers Union of America Local 223, which represents 4,500 DTE employees in a variety of positions. But a mass layoff hasn't happened since 1955, when the company eliminated its power plant construction department. Even then, most of those let go were rehired.
At a time when Michigan's economy is creating uncertainty for many workers, DTE employees fear hundreds of layoffs could be coming, Harrison said.
"They haven't said to us at all that layoffs or a reduction in work force are going to happen," he said. "What they have said to us is that benchmarking data suggests, based on first-quartile companies, that we may have too many people."
First-quartile companies are utilities whose costs are lower than 75 percent of others in their industry. As it determines cuts, DTE is comparing the size of its work force; spending on benefits and overtime; the number of contractors it hires; and other expenditures to top-performing utilities.
Anderson said a confluence of factors, including unprecedented fuel prices, regulatory requirements necessitating major investments and changes within the utility industry, have prompted the company's austerity push.
DTE said it is not responding to an ongoing investigation by the Michigan Public Service Commission into unusually high administrative costs, he said. The efficiency push was started months before regulators raised the issue. DTE must report to the commission on overhead costs by Feb. 1.
"Our customers are going through about as tough a time economically as we have seen," Anderson said. "They deserve to see us go through our costs as diligently as they have had to. They expect that their energy company is going to bear some of the burden here.
"We're not doing it because we're in financial distress or bankruptcy is looming. We're doing it because our customers deserve it and the evolution of the industry requires it."
DTE provides electricity to 2.1 million customers from the Ohio state line into Michigan's Thumb. It delivers natural gas to 1.2 million homes and businesses in most of Wayne and Washtenaw counties and other parts of the state.
Detroit Edison's rates are among the highest in the Midwest, and MichCon's rates, while among the lowest nationwide, are noticeably higher than the state's other big utility, Jackson-based Consumers Energy.
Rates are set by the public service commission, which reviews utilities' expenses when responding to requests for increases.
Daniele Seitz, a utility analyst for Maxcor Financial in New York, is glad to see DTE thoroughly examining its operations. Utilities can over time become bloated as they deal with regulatory requirements or when growth of their customer base slows
Now that they face competition -- Michigan enacted an electric choice law five years ago -- utilities are forced to be more vigilant over their operations, Seitz said.
"You don't want it to cost any reliability, but in any business it's always good to review the way you do things," she said.
Seitz said it is difficult to compare utilities' costs because of variables such as the amount of union labor they use and the density of the population they serve.
Layoffs rumors were addressed Monday in an employee newsletter, DTE Daily: "While there are no specific goals for the numbers of employees to be released, it is expected that job losses will be an outcome of the process efficiencies that currently are being identified and evaluated."
Harrison, the union president, said he hopes DTE proceeds cautiously and takes into account that many employees are nearing retirement. Sizeable cuts now, followed by many workers retiring in a few years, could lead to problems.
"If you have a lot of people go out the door," he said, "you compromise your knowledge, safety and reliability if you don't do it right."

RE: Ann Coulter....she just a plain bitch

Ann Coulter's penis, not that she has one, but I've never seen evidence to the contrary by John in DC - 12/01/2005 07:46:00 PM
You may not have noticed, because I try not to give the skank much attention, but Ann Coulter's latest hate-filled diatribe included the insinuation that Cong. John Murtha may not have really earn the Purple Hearts he received in Vietnam. Gosh, sound familiar? Here we have Ann attacking John Murtha while defending Oliver North:
And unlike Murtha, who refuses to release his medical records showing he was entitled to his two Purple Hearts, we know what North did. (These Democrat military veterans are hardly shrinking violets when it comes to citing their medals, but they get awfully squeamish when pressed for details.) Of course, I've never seen any medical records proving that Ann eats or doesn't have a penis (not that there's anything wrong with being anorexic or hermaphroditic, nor that I'm insuinating Ann is either of those, I'm just saying I've never seen any medical records.)There's reason to believe the McCarthyite Wing of the Republican party may kick off a larger campaign in a few days to Swift Boat Murtha. If that happens, I think we need to go nuclear in response. Teach the Coulters and all the rest that the real world of politics is a lot more brutal than a glass of Slim-Fast. If they want to play dirty, then someone needs to slam them down, hard enough, so that it never happens again.Stay tuned.

RE: Post-op says she a lesbian , my kind of girl !

Gender Bending
March 2005
Thai surgeons are renowned worldwide for turning men into women. Richard Ehrlich talks to a former soldier who has been reassigned to the ranks of womanhood After a former US Army corporal became a grandfather, he stopped secretly wearing women's clothes, flew to Bangkok for a sex change operation and emerged as a lesbian. “I heard about Bangkok from the Internet. My daughter found it for me,” Sherri Ann Higgins, 56, said in a recorded interview while recovering from surgery in a Bangkok hospital. “The price was reasonable. And what I liked about Bangkok is there was only a one-month waiting list, whereas in the US there is at least eight months to wait to have the change.” Thai doctors are experts at chopping off a male's sex organ and fashioning a vagina. ”It's not until they remove the bandages that you realise it's gone,” Ms. Higgins said, laughing in her modern hospital room. Some 170cm tall and 68 kilos svelte, Ms. Higgins said the operation was not painful and, after a prescription of hormones, she did not need silicone to create breasts. Her story – from birth as Robert James Higgins, a troubled Catholic childhood, marriage and parenting a daughter and becoming a grandfather – illustrates the plight of thousands of people worldwide who feel they were born in the body of the opposite gender. Successfully concealing his confusion, Higgins was drafted and served in the US Army from June 1968 to June 1970, including stints as a corporal and chief engineer in Okinawa. “Some people think it is strange that I was in the service and I'm [now] transgendered.” Unlike some men who lived as gays before becoming women, Ms. Higgins says she has always been aroused exclusively by women. Despite divorcing her wife in June over the sex-change issue, the couple still lives together in Murrysville, Pennsylvania. “The relationship is still the same,” she says. “I still change oil in the cars, and cut the grass and do the household chores. In fact, I even do the cooking now, because she works 12 hours sometimes and when she comes home, she's hungry, so I have a meal for her.”

RE: The live in another world the Bushies

TOM WALSH: Detroit, U.S. worlds apart
Snow says manufacturing workers so productive that fewer are needed
November 1, 2005
BY TOM WALSH FREE PRESS COLUMNIST
U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow flew a mission on Monday to Planet Detroit, which mysteriously left the economic orbit of GalaxyUSA several years ago along with the rest of Michigan and a chunk of northern Ohio.
Snow assured the restless exiles out on Planet Detroit that all is swell back in GalaxyUSA, where the economies of the remaining 48.7 states are chugging merrily forward, growing at a nearly 4% annual clip despite shocks from Hurricane Katrina and high energy prices.
"A lot of things are going right," Snow said in an interview before his luncheon speech to the Planet Detroit Economic Club. "You can't have results like that unless the fundamentals are in pretty good shape. What's happened to the American economy over the last 30 years or so is that we have built in an adjustment process, a set of shock absorbers that allow our system to take blows and respond." Not many other places can say that, he added.
Well, whoop-de-do, Mr. Secretary.
If GalaxyUSA's shock absorbers are so good, how did Planet Detroit blow a rod and spin out of orbit into deep space, with companies like Delphi Corp., Collins & Aikman and Federal-Mogul in Chapter 11 bankruptcy and our primary economic engines -- General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. -- sputtering along with junk-rated debt?
And how do the big honchos from Washington, D.C., plan to rescue and retrieve Planet Detroit so its people can again enjoy the same level of prosperity as the rest of GalaxyUSA someday?
Snow's explanation for how Planet Detroit veered out of orbit was creative.
The manufacturing workers of Planet Detroit became so efficient that many of them were no longer needed.
"It doesn't take as many people any more ... The increase in productivity in the manufacturing sector has been astonishing," Snow said. Therefore, many jobs disappeared.
What's more, many of the jobs that remained -- thanks to longstanding union labor contracts -- were the high-paying kind with good benefits, like those at Delphi, GM and Ford. With today's space-age technology allowing work to be beamed cheaply from one galaxy to the next, pressure kept building to slash wages on Planet Detroit or ship the work to other states, planets or galaxies.
Isn't there something you can do in Washington, Snow was asked, to help Planet Detroit return to its home galaxy and share in the economic expansion?
Remember when President George W. Bush slapped tariffs on imported steel to help the steel mills of Planet Pennsylvania a few years ago? Can't he do something similar to help Planet Detroit?
"I think the best help is to do the things we're doing to improve the overall strength of the economy -- good tax policy, lifting regulatory burdens and continuing to push on reducing health care costs," Snow said. Oh yes, and lowering trade barriers to make it easier for Planet Detroit's manufacturers to sell to other worlds.
That all sounds good, Mr. Secretary, but a lot of the restless exiles out here on Planet Detroit believe that all this free trade and lowering barriers stuff is what caused the job losses and wage cuts in the first place. There are some loud and angry voices arguing to throw up more trade barriers, not knock 'em down.
Snow's retort: Forget about it. If you don't like our brave new universe, tough noogies.
"Globalization," he said, "is here and it's not going to stop. It's inevitable, like it or dislike it, love it or hate it."
And with that, Snow departed at warp speed, leaving the confounding questions of Planet Detroit behind as he returned to the friendlier confines of GalaxyUSA.

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on the announcement that Delphi has filed for Chapter 11:
I am profoundly disturbed by Delphi's decision and what it means for the nearly 15,000 Michigan employees, many of whom have worked for decades for the company based upon the promise that they would have a pension and health care when they retired.
Globalization is ravaging Michigan's manufacturing job base. Delphi's decision will undoubtedly have a ripple effect through Michigan's economy - an economy already reeling from outsourcing.
I am angry that this action occurs one day after headlines blared that Delphi employees were being asked to accept brutal, draconian pay cuts while upper management is being offered golden parachutes.
I am equally angry about the lack of support from Washington for the industries that made our country great. There is an apparent indifference in Washington to the human pain that so-called free trade has brought to average, patriotic, hardworking citizens who believe in keeping promises.
Moreover, the silence from the federal government is deafening. Washington negotiates these trade agreements and is not offering needed investment in either training our citizens or providing assistance with health care to allow both workers and businesses to be competitive.
If we as a nation can invest billions in infrastructure at home and around the globe, surely we can invest in the human infrastructure -- our American citizens -- whose middle class dreams and plans are being rapidly extinguished by race-to-the-bottom global competition. - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm.

RE: Condi is a Lez...Great...Welcome to the community

Condi’s Cable Love Connection
After a grueling day of diplomatic affairs, Condoleezza Rice could probably use an affair of her own. But things must be pretty grim if even Fox News feels compelled to hook her up. Not surprisingly, the blog world is abuzz this week after a recent interview in which Fox correspondent James Rosen lobbied the defiantly single Secretary of State on the charms of a comely female colleague.
The odd interchange aired last Tuesday, when Rice sat down with Rosen for an interview in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Rosen opened the conversation with a few softball questions about President Aristide and Iran’s nuclear ambitions. But he closed it with an impassioned testimonial on behalf of Fox & Friends anchor Lauren Green, a thirtysomething former Miss Minnesota who’s apparently a big fan of the Secretary’s. An excerpt:
ROSEN: … All right. I close with a gift for you. You met this person once, I believe, but you really, I think, ought to know each other because this woman is… I think you’ll have an interest in knowing her. She is one of our Fox News anchors in New York. Her name is Lauren Green. She is brilliant, she’s beautiful, she’s African-American, she’s single and she’s a concert pianist in her spare time.
RICE: My goodness.
ROSEN: And she asked me to give you her CD and I promised her that I would.
RICE: That’s perfect.
ROSEN: And here’s her doing a number of different classical pieces.
RICE: Well, that’s special.
ROSEN: So there you have it.RICE: Thank her very much and I look forward to seeing her sometime.
ROSEN: All right. She’s going to want to hear from you.
RICE: And maybe even playing dual piano sometime.
Not surprisingly, the curious exchange left many wondering if the wry reporter was trying to set Rice up on a date. But when we called to ask if he was trying to play matchmaker, Rosen insisted “nothing could be further from the truth…What I meant to say is that the two of them have a lot in common.” The veteran correspondent, who has frequently accompanied Rice on overseas trips, added, “I would never presume to deal at all with Secretary Rice’s personal life.”
Though Rice hasn’t been publicly linked with anyone since she stepped out with football player-turned-actor Gene Washington in the late 1980s, State Department spokesman Edgar Vasquez dismisses online speculation about a Sapphic set-up. “I wouldn’t read anything into that,” he counseled when we called him yesterday. Vasquez says there is no date set for Rice’s proposed rendezvous to tickle the ivories with Green, but adds, “I don’t think she’d be averse to meeting her. Whether there’s time and her schedule opens up, that’s a different thing.”
Green, whose album, Classic Beauty, was released in 2004, could not be reached for comment.

RE: Georgie is a boozer...great news

BUSH'S BOOZE CRISISBy JENNIFER LUCE and DON GENTILEFaced with the biggest crisis of his political life, President Bush has hit the bottle again, The National Enquirer can reveal.Bush, who said he quit drinking the morning after his 40th birthday, has started boozing amid the Katrina catastrophe.Family sources have told how the 59-year-old president was caught by First Lady Laura downing a shot of booze at their family ranch in Crawford, Texas, when he learned of the hurricane disaster. His worried wife yelled at him: "Stop, George."Following the shocking incident, disclosed here for the first time, Laura privately warned her husband against "falling off the wagon" and vowed to travel with him more often so that she can keep an eye on Dubya, the sources add."When the levees broke in New Orleans, it apparently made him reach for a shot," said one insider. "He poured himself a Texas-sized shot of straight whiskey and tossed it back. The First Lady was shocked and shouted: "Stop George!""Laura gave him an ultimatum before, 'It's Jim Beam or me.' She doesn't want to replay that nightmare — especially now when it's such tough going for her husband."Bush is under the worst pressure of his two terms in office and his popularity is near an all-time low. The handling of the Katrina crisis and troop losses in Iraq have fueled public discontent and pushed Bush back to drink.A Washington source said: "The sad fact is that he has been sneaking drinks for weeks now. Laura may have only just caught him — but the word is his drinking has been going on for a while in the capital. He's been in a pressure cooker for months."The war in Iraq, the loss of American lives, has deeply affected him. He takes every soldier's life personally. It has left him emotionally drained. The result is he's taking drinks here and there, likely in private, to cope. "And now with the worst domestic crisis in his administration over Katrina, you pray his drinking doesn't go out of control."Another source said: "I'm only surprised to hear that he hadn't taken a shot sooner. Before Katrina, he was at his wit's end. I've known him for years. He's been a good ol' Texas boy forever. George had a drinking problem for years that most professionals would say needed therapy. He doesn't believe in it [therapy], he never got it. He drank his way through his youth, through college and well into his thirties. Everyone's drinking around him."Another source said: "A family member told me they fear George is 'falling apart.' The First Lady has been assigned the job of gatekeeper." Bush's history of drinking dates back to his youth. Speaking of his time as a young man in the National Guard, he has said: "One thing I remember, and I'm most proud of, is my drinking and partying. Those were the days my friends. Those were the good old days!"Age 26 in 1972, he reportedly rounded off a night's boozing with his 16-year-old brother Marvin by challenging his father to a fight. On November 1, 2000, on the eve of his first presidential election, Bush acknowledged that in 1976 he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol near his parents' home in Maine. Age 30 at the time, Bush pleaded guilty and paid a $150 fine. His driving privileges were temporarily suspended in Maine."I'm not proud of that," he said. "I made some mistakes. I occasionally drank too much, and I did that night. I learned my lesson." In another interview around that time, he said: "Well, I don't think I had an addiction. You know it's hard for me to say. I've had friends who were, you know, very addicted... and they required hitting bottom (to start) going to AA. I don't think that was my case."During his 2000 presidential campaign, there were also persistent questions about past cocaine use. Eventually Bush denied using cocaine after 1992, then quickly extended the cocaine-free period back to 1974, when he was 28.Dr. Justin Frank, a Washington D.C. psychiatrist and author of Bush On The Couch: Inside The Mind Of The President, told The National Enquirer: "I do think that Bush is drinking again. Alcoholics who are not in any program, like the President, have a hard time when stress gets to be great."I think it's a concern that Bush disappears during times of stress. He spends so much time on his ranch. It's very frightening."Published on: 09/21/2005

[From the diaries -- Hunter.]
Another example of a newsman calling it like it is. (Transcribed as best I can. )
The thing that's most glaring in all of this is that the conditions continue to deteriorate for people who are victims and the efforts to do something about it don't seem to be anywhere in sight. [...]
The questions that we ask in The Situation Room every day are posted on the website two or three hours before we go on the air and people who read the website often begin to respond to the questions before the show actually starts. The question for this hour is whether the government is doing a good job in handling the situation.
I gotta tell you something, we got five or six hundred letters before the show actually went on the air, and no one - no one - is saying the government is doing a good job in handling one of the most atrocious and embarrassing and far-reaching and calamatous things that has come along in this country in my lifetime. I'm 62. I remember the riots in Watts, I remember the earthquake in San Francisco, I remember a lot of things. I have never, ever, seen anything as bungled and as poorly handled as this situation in New Orleans. Where the hell is the water for these people? Why can't sandwiches be dropped to those people in the Superdome. What is going on? This is Thursday! This storm happened 5 days ago. This is a disgrace. And don't think the world isn't watching. This is the government that the taxpayers are paying for, and it's fallen right flat on its face as far as I can see, in the way it's handled this thing.
We're going to talk about something else before the show's over, too. And that's the big elephant in the room. The race and economic class of most of the victims, which the media hasn't discussed much at all, but we will a bit later.

"Our great country is in a terrible downward spiral. We're outsourcing jobs, bankrupting social security, and losing lives at war. We need to focus on what's important-- paying attention to our children, our citizens, our future. RE: damm Detroit is hotbed for Liberals?

United Press International

Detroit found to be most liberal U.S. city
Aug. 11, 2005 at 7:39AM
Detroit is the most liberal U.S. city while Provo, Utah, is the most conservative, a study of voting patterns indicates. The list was compiled by the Bay Area Center for Voting Research in California through an examination of voting in 237 U.S. cities with populations of more than 100,000. "Detroit and Provo epitomize America's political, economic and racial polarization," BACVR Director Jason Alderman said in a release Thursday. "As the most conservative city in America, Provo is overwhelmingly white and solidly middle class. This is in stark contrast to Detroit, which is impoverished, black and the most liberal." Gary, Ind., was found to be the second-most liberal followed by Berkeley, Calif.; Washington; and Oakland, Calif. The group that did the ranking is based in Berkeley, not far from Oakland. Texas, home to President George Bush, has three of the five most conservative cities, as determined by BACVR, including Lubbock and Abilene in the Nos. 2 and 3 spots and Plano in the fifth spot. Hialeah, Fla., was ranked fourth. BACVR offered no detailed breakdown of its methodology.

Tancredo clarifies 'ultimate response'
Congressman says he's just thinking of threats to deter attack
By John Aguilar, Rocky Mountain NewsJuly 18, 2005
U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo's office on Sunday tried to clarify remarks the congressman made on a radio show that the U.S. could threaten to "take out" Islamic holy sites if Muslim fundamentalists were to attack the country with nuclear weapons.
The Republican congressman made his remarks Friday during an interview with talk show host Pat Campbell on WFLA in Orlando,

Do two wrongs make it right? Believe me I thought that ......but is right.aren't we better than that? I sure hope so.

Bernie Goldberg's new book: Hannity is in Heaven
OK, I had to watch the segment about his new, more biased than ever book:100 People Who Are Screwing Up America. I wonder who would top the list..let's see...Does anyone think that Osama Bin Laden might be the one? Does Bernie think Osama played the pivitol roll in screwing up our country? Colmes makes it quite obvious that the amount of research Bernie used to write his entire book was probably less than it took me to pen this post.

RE: NYC First Known Cop

NYPD's First Transsexual Cop
G.N. Miller
The transsexual transit cop, who went from John to June Lo, yesterday in Queens. Lo has already won colleagues' acceptance.
MURRAY WEISS and DAN MANGAN Courtesy of New York Post
June 23, 2005 -- A Queens police officer has rocked the NYPD with an announcement that he is becoming a she - the first known transsexual cop in New York City.
"Everyone's been very supportive, and I'm very happy about it," said a smiling Officer June Lo, who, until earlier this week, was known as Officer John Lo.
"It's taken courage, but I'm very pleased," Lo told The Post on the way to work last night at the Queens Transit Task Force, wearing a white sleeveless blouse, tan cargo pants and sneakers, and hair in a ponytail.
Declining to comment further, the 31-year-old Lo said that at some point in the future, "I will make a statement" about the transition from man to woman.
Lo revealed the gender-bending decision Tuesday night during a roll call of Queens Transit Task Force cops.
When Lo's name was called out by the sergeant, the cop asked to address the assembled officers and was granted permission.
"He said, 'This is the way things are now. My name is June Lo. I've legally changed it from John to June,' " said a Queens transit cop familiar with the situation.
Lo also told the other cops that she had been taking female hormones in preparation for undergoing surgery to completely become a woman.
The hormones have enabled the slight, 5-foot-4 Asian-American officer to noticeably grow breasts over the past several months. In addition to that change, officers have seen the freckle-faced Lo grow fingernails and hair long, and wear earrings in both ears.
"He's been like this for a while," the Queens cop said. "He's been transforming into a woman for a long time."
"You don't know, in street clothes, if he's a male or a woman," said the cop.
Lo told the other officers at roll call that if they had any questions about the process, they could either ask then or later privately.
The cops, most of whom were aware that Lo was in the process of becoming a female, burst into applause at the announcement by eight-year veteran.
"Some guys asked, 'Can we still call you J.Lo?' He said, 'Yeah,' " said one cop, noting that Lo had affectionately has been known by that nickname for some time.
Lo was "totally open and not . . . scared or whatever" during the announcement, the cop said.
Helping Lo was the fact that "everyone seems to like him," the cop said.
Officials said Lo is the first known person ever to undergo gender reassignment in NYPD history.
"His captain had no idea that this was going down at a roll call. He had J.Lo in his office for about an hour," the cop said.
The cop said that superiors are being accommodating by allowing Lo to change in a separate room.
"He's got a private locker room, basically," the cop said.

I saw Cinderalla Man yesterday it really good and moving and tell you the 30's are very much like today. The problem is their is no FDR out there that worrying about the people today.

Here a couple new questions? Do you veiw Deep Throat as hero or as a traitor? That man had a moral compass ...which nobody it seems in goverment has today. I remember when I first started college back in the fall of 72.I took a political science course and the professor said does anybody know the names of Hadleman and Ericlhman. This was before Watergate it hit the papers and network news. This was before cable, talk radio, internet sites. I remember like it was yesterday he said "these guys are the most powerful guys in Washington DC" He was right. It really scare you how many people don't know who Karl Rove is. Do you think the Right Wing owns the mass media? After watching the cable new channels last night. It was like what Nixon did was a-ok with these guys. The started trashing this guy.Made him out to be a snitch. The man had moral compass. If we reallyknow the truth it would scare the hell out of us. Give people the spin and they will believe it. Yes, I believe the big media companies are leaning to the right. At this time in history. Sorry.

RE: Ann Coulter the darling of the right wing a Jew lover!!! NO

05.27.2005 Eugene Volokh
Ann Coulter on Jews
I have little affection for Ms. Coulter's style, or for many of her opinions; I've strongly criticized her in the past for things she's written. Still, I wonder whether the Jews/pandering item might be sarcasm gone awry. Here's the context of her quote:
[Al] Sharpton . . . inflamed angry mobs in Brooklyn's Crown Heights, leading to the murder of Yankel Rosenbaum. He incited an anti-Semitic pogrom against a Jewish-owned clothing store in Harlem, Freddy's, ending in a blaze of bullets and fire that left several employees dead. So while the other Democrats talk about their personal tragedies, Sharpton goes around creating personal tragedies.
In addition to having a number of family deaths among them, the Democrats' other big idea – too nuanced for a bumper sticker – is that many of them have Jewish ancestry. There's Joe Lieberman: Always Jewish. Wesley Clark: Found Out His Father Was Jewish in College. John Kerry: Jewish Since He Began Presidential Fund-Raising. Howard Dean: Married to a Jew. Al Sharpton: Circumcised. Even Hillary Clinton claimed to have unearthed some evidence that she was a Jew – along with the long lost evidence that she was a Yankees fan. And that, boys and girls, is how the Jews survived thousands of years of persecution: by being susceptible to pandering.
Clark said that when he discovered he was half-Jewish, he remembered growing up in Arkansas and feeling "a certain kinship" with Jewish families in the dry-goods business. (I, too, have always felt a certain kinship with Calvin Trillin.)
The Democrats' urge to assert a Jewish heritage is designed to disguise the fact that the Democrats would allow the state of Israel to perish as Palestinian suicide bombers slaughter Jewish women and children. . . .
Being susceptible to pandering, of course, is not a survival trait -- it's usually harmful to one's survival. That itself suggests that her statement was meant sarcastically, to suggest that in fact a group as savvy as we Jews are (and, hey, we are pretty savvy) can see right through all this pandering.
Moreover, anti-Jewish "bigot[s]" are usually not the first to denounce instigators of "anti-Semitic pogroms," or express concern for Israel. This isn't a categorical rule; we can certainly imagine someone who's both an anti-Semitic bigot and who defends Israel and denounces those who stir up pogroms. If Coulter's other statement were clearly anti-Semitic, one can imagine some such complex set of motivations on her part. But given that her other statement seems at worst ambiguous -- and in my view pretty clearly sarcastic -- these other statements help resolve the ambiguity in Coulter's favor.
So one may certainly fault Ms. Coulter for much; but I don't think one can properly fault this column of hers for anti-Semitic bigotry.

First, I had never heard of Congressman Bachus before this. Now lots of people have heard of him. You're welcome, Congressman, glad I could help get your Q rating up.
By the way, are we sure he's really a Congressman? Maybe he's just a guy with a fax machine. You know how fact checking goes these days.
I could go on and on, but this is too ridiculous, so I'll just say this: I'm not a congressman, I'm a comedian. There's nothing I can really do to help or hurt our troops (although anyone who's watched my shows or read my books in the last twelve years knows I'm a pretty ardent supporter of the military).
But a congressman, there's someone who can actually DO SOMETHING to help our troops. In fact, a case could be made that it's a lot more treasonous for someone in his position to be wasting his time yelling at a comedian. Shouldn't he be training his outrage at such problems as troops not having enough armor? Wouldn't that ACTUALLY support our troops more? And citizens of this country who claim to support our troops should write this man and tell him GET...

RE: what a month so far

What a month so far. I can't seem to get anything going in the right direction in either business or socaily. Maybe I'm pressing to hard in both. I'll just lay back and see what happens. I made a big step by putting my picture ala femme mode on a couple of different sites. I'm not hiding my desire anymore. It truly not the picture I would like to post. I'm for the natural looking type. But I need more practice in that area. I would love to find a friend you truly understand were I'm coming from and help learn to dress that way. Again I just wait to see what happens. I have to add two new woman to my TG Hall of fame. That my friend Lady Di..she is so encouraging and now living the role in real life. The other is my friend Amy ....she as well is living the life fulltime. They are both true role models for the one still somewhat in the closet. I have never meet them in person but have chatted and exchange emails with both. I look forward to hearing from them and learning from them as well. They are younger than me but have taken on the fights that I just dream about. You both go girls!!
In the meantime the world is going to hell in a hand basket. The politics in this country are getting scarery everday. Let hope in 2006 this country will stop this ride to the extreme right. I don't know how many of you listen to Air America on the radio but you can stream it on your computer as well. Listen people. The city of Detroit what a good comedy Kawmi has made it. Mayor Hip Hop.....give me a break. He a kid running a major city. Until the next time. Peace. I want to wish my another one of my hall of famer Denise from Ann Arbor who getting her SRS this month from Dr.Bower. Enjoy the ride. She really one neat woman ....I owe her a couple of drinks if she'll ever meet me for them!

RE: There has to be one bad apple in the crowd

Ann Coulter: Most likely Not a Man
Probably the most persistent attacks aimed at Ann Coulter by her political opponents have contended that she is a post operative transexual who was born as a man. I intend in this piece to show that this contention is not supported by any firm evidence. Here is an example of the attack from Liberal Site DailyKos:there is a persistent rumor that Ms. Ann Coulter is a male drag queen or male to female transsexual. IMHO, the reason for the rumor is in the relatively rare pictures when one can see her neck at any level of detail, there is something on her neck that has a very suspicious resemblance to an Adam's apple. I have seen such pictures myself. I've heard that there are other things about her physical appearance that aren't quite consistent with that of a normal biological female. Also from DailyKos:I will always refer to her as "Ann-drew" or "Ann the Man," until someone convinces me that he/she is indeed a female who just happens to look like a skinny guy with a big Adam's Apple.

Developing..." This is from the evil Derudge Report. This just you want I meant that the flipping uptight missionary Republicans want to be in your life and face . They are lower than a curb and that pretty low in my book. Let the woman go. She hasn't recover in 15 years it not going to happen. Steroid in baseball that important as well.Give me a flipping break. Let them really do something in congress. I'm done ranting

RE: it a bubble gum world

I'm driving and listening to the radio ....What are they talking about Robert Blake, Scott Peterson, M.Jackson all these things are a distraction to take our eyes off the ball. In the meantime your congress and senate are screwing with us. They want to pass laws that make cable and satellite television have indecency rules like they do for regular radio and TV. The Republicans have become the moral police. In the meantime they pass a bill to drill for oil in Alaska. (great) Like that is going to bring gas prices down. They are worry about social security 20 years from now or longer. So they can make all their buddies on Wall Street can make more money. In the meantime gas is at all time high and it going to keep going north. By mid summer you'll be paying over $2.50 a gallon if not more. Health insurance which is major problem and one the Republican do not want to address anytime soon. In there world everything is fine and mellow. Pardon me .... All my lesbian friends and gay friends but if any of the Democracts had balls they would be hammering the GOP on the Health Care issue and embarrass the flipping GOP. Hillary better come to the plate and hit it out of the flipping ball park. http://krupsjustsayin.blogspot.com/ checkout this blog and click on the Lewis Black CD and laugh your ass off. Randy Rhodes was back on Air America radio today after being out for a while because she was recovery from surgery. She great and is great voice to hear in these crazy days of buggle gum for the mind which the major media is covering. Speaking of no balls. Can you tell I'm piss-off tonight. The world is going crazy and it seems like nobody cares. Is it me? Peace

You Are Bold And Brave
But daring? Not usually? You tend to like to make calculated risks. So while you may not be base jumping any time soon...You are up for whatever's new and (a little) exciting!
You Are Placid and Peaceful
It's not that you're scared of most thrillsIt's just that you don't need them to be happyYou're content with life as is... no need to change itJust make sure to let loose a little every now and then

RE: Transformation.....Help!!

I did it yesterday...I had somebody give me a transformation. I was not happy with the results may I say. The person that did is more in the CD mindset and like to wear a lot of make-up and dress more what other words may I say sluty. First I'm not into it ....the make-up and dressing sluty. My mindset is not that of CD. I'm old hippie at heart. So give me a denim skirt and cotton top. Very little make-up I like the more natural and mature look. I try it and if someone like to see the results I can email a picture to you. ( believe me you can have a good laugh) It would be nice to have a mentor to show me the correct way of becoming what I like to achieve. Being trans to me is something that is a mindset and also political in nature. Being accepted by other woman and transpeople also is important to me as well. I think the one that get dress up and go to the bars on the weekend and act trampy doesn't help the cause it just makes it stereotypical of what people think of trans people. That a shame. Well it back to drawing table. I will say I don't have bad legs. They couldn't ruin that. It was something I want to try and I did. It was also a very cold enviroment to me as well. They told me whatever they felt I wanted to hear.

From the Rainbow Room to Iraq

It funny I try a new adventure this weekend I went to bar called the Rainbow Room on East Eight Mile Road and let me say I will vote to make bar's all nonsmoking in a New York Minute. The other thing is the majority of lesbians that were at this bar, well let say they didn't make me feel warm and wanting to get to know me at all. The bartender was about the only nice one I meet there. She didn't charge me for a club soda after two Rolling Rocks at $4.00 a piece. The trannies that were there well .....they have they work ahead of them if they want to pass as woman. So here my question about being the different gender if you can't do it well then should you do it? I walk out there more confused because when I see two woman being emotional and holding each other I get excited wishing it was me. I want to thank the bartender for letting me into her world last night. She and the other bartender a little older woman probably in mid-40's and they acted like lovers and to watch them interact together well it fun and very cute. The reality of it all is that I'm 6'3 and 230 pound person. I do not look like the woman I truly would like to look like. I drove home for over forty minute drive listening to some good old rock'n roll I must admit I do not like dance music at all. So what I need to do is open a gay friendly mature bar with a good taste in background music. Maybe there is such a place in Michigan I just haven't found it.
The next subject about Iraq and all the bullshit that happening there just get me even more mad at current administration. I was actually watching Meet the Press this morning and what scare me was I agreed with Pat Buchcan. Don't worry I still flipping liberal and fighter for the cause. Pat just believes we need to get the hell out of there and that Bush basically make deals with the devil to improve he popularity points. I agree. We got to keep the pressure on these politicians and to war on descend of Bush policies. Oh, well. I actually did another wacky thing yesterday I went in to store called Lover's Lane on Woodward in Royal Oak. They actually have saleswoman in there and that show you all their products. I actually blush when I was back in I what I guess is adult toy department and the sales woman tells me that the area I was looking at is mostly the anal area. EH! I want to buy a vibrator for myself. Even at fifty years of age one still wants a sometype of sex life. But I must be living in cave the selection was unbelievable didn't know of all the different type of weird toys their are. I did buy one .....not the anal one those. As Woody Alan one said " It better to do it somebody that you love". I guess I like my sex like my music and drink. Simple and pure. Peace.

RE: Superbowl Night

It funny I was at Superbowl Party and we all had great time and then at halftime. Sir Paul Mc Carthny was playing it was great it seem at moment everybody watching was singing " Hey Jude" it one classic moment. Then the downer came when a old friend who so to right it was painful we got into argument about Health Care Insurance and the cost and how out of control it is. May I say thank GOD for drugs that help me with my problem this week. I started a new drug for my RA called EMBEREL it another shot once a week and then my doc gave something it relieve the inflammation on my wrist and fingers even those it he said he might be temporary. One day without pain is a good one. Like I said to him I like to pitch 9 innings instead of the problems of walking up & down the stairs. I guess being a translesbian isn't what happens when I still have some of my old male ways but I love my female ways as I get older. Why does getting to get layed always have to be about GENDER? The Eagles gave a great fight ...It was both two Blue States against each other. Well that my story and hope you listen and read the blog. Music tonight was from Sly & Family Stone " Family Affair" to Boz Scaggs " Loan Me A Dime" .

RE: Two Woman I Admire in the Trans World

There are some transgender woman that I have meet or should I say been introduce to them by either their web page / blog/ some support group. This road of being a transgender lesbian is not a easy one. Some the TS Woman don't really want to tell you their sexual preferance they want to be somewhat mysterious about it. I guess because I've always been in sales I just rather be up front on what I am and what I'm going to be. I guess I am more drawn to the more mature TS/TG woman and they path they have chosen to take. A couple of my new hero's are Donna Rose who is a very classy woman period. And she does answer her email and is very supportive. Read her book "Wrapped in Blue". It would be a dream of mine to be with her like she was with her friend Kathy and have that special feeling that she has made the right decision. I got to be believe she more of a lesbian than she is hetro woman. But that only a guess and whatever she is okay with me. My newest hero is Denise /UMlawgirl. She has a great blog to read and she doing two things I at once transtioning in womanhood and going back to school to get LAW degree at University of Michigan. I've haven't meet or talk to her but she must be one bright woman cause to go back in mid-life and to be with the young students in competitive environment is well one tough thing in my book. Becoming a woman when you have been a man close to 50 years that one hell of tough road as well. Denise you got my vote and support. You go girl. These woman represent what I want to be in the world of womanhood. It doesn't hurt that both very cute and stylish as well. Keep going ladies. You all have a good weekend.

RE: Keep the pressure on

Well I haven't written here in a while. I was little depress about the election. I stared my morning getting out of bed hearing on the radio that Michigan is the leading the country in the highest unemployment rate. Then I go to my office and put on MSNBC to see my main man the grump Don Imus tell everybody that over 30 soldiers died in helicopter crash in Iraq. If you think that situation is going to getting better well pass me one as well so I can take a good toke. Then I heard the W. press conference and you say to yourself he must be living in Disneyland and what world is he living in. I started my year out with my annual present from Michigan Blue Cross and Blue Shield a 10% plus increase. Also I went to 2 funeral in one day at the same place and both these people where at my 50th birthday party. My they have peace in the after world . And now Johnny Carson. All 3 of these people where classic people and all meant something to me. As I get older I realize your health and mental well being are the most important thing to preserve for yourself. But I'm still One Mad Jewish TransLesbian. When I see injustice it make me mad and I got to speak up. Their is only one bush I like that why I'm lesbian as well. We got to keep the pressure on these Bushie people because sooner hopefully not later they will screw up. Let me know what you think. I guess this more political than about transgender problems. But don't they go hand in hand? Just go download Lola by the Kinks and enjoy your life. Until next time. Peace.
